SOVEREIGNTY & SECESSION BY STATES etc.

The AP reports that as many as six Republican governors may turn their noses up at stimulus money for their states. That includes, of course, Sarah Palin 2012.

A half-dozen Republican governors are considering turning down some money from the federal stimulus package, a move opponents say puts conservative ideology ahead of the needs of constituents struggling with foreclosures and unemployment.

Though none has outright rejected the money available for education, healthcare, and infrastructure, the governors of Alaska, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Texas have all questioned whether the $787 billion bill signed into law this week will help the economy.

“My concern is there’s going to be commitments attached to it that are a mile long,” said Governor Rick Perry of Texas. “We need the freedom to pick and choose. And we need the freedom to say ‘No thanks.’ ”

ANOTHER POINT GOVERNORS ARE MAKING TO THEIR STATE LEGISLATORS:

We are sending more money to the federal government than we receive back for our local expenses!

Three Republican governors voiced concerns this week over acceptance of a dizzying conglomeration of bailout funding to their states from President Obama’s so-called stimulus bill, which includes a massive array of deadlines, mandates and consequences.

Govs. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Rick Perry of Texas and Mark Sanford of South Carolina have all made it clear that they strongly disagree with the Obama plan to saddle taxpayers with an additional $1.2 trillion of federal loan debt and spending that has very little to do with stimulating the economy.

Staffers for all three governors confirmed to HUMAN EVENTS yesterday that their experts are now doing the job Democrats in Congress refused to do and refused to allow Republicans to do before the vote: they are reading the entire 1,100-page “stimulus” spending bill.

The R3publican blog is reporting this evening that Rep. Charles Key’s HJR1003 has passed Oklahoma’s State House by a large majority:

Oklahoma Sovereignty 10th Amendment Resolution HJR 1003 passes in house today!

"THAT the State of Oklahoma hereby claims sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States.

THAT this serve as Notice and Demand to the federal government, as our agent, to cease and desist, effective immediately, mandates that are beyond the scope of these constitutionally delegated powers."
