Just when you thought it was impossible to find more proof of the bungling of the bailout ... Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), chairman of the House Ways and Means oversight subcommittee, announced this morning that his panel had found 13 of the top 23 recipients of TARP owing the government $220 million in back taxes.
Making matters worse was the fact that any company getting TARP aid had to certify to the Treasury Department that they didn't owe back taxes before getting their share of the bailout, as Lewis explained. It appears that Treasury took the bailed-out businesses at their word rather than asking to actually see their tax records.

Alan Note: reminds me of the policy in the days of the late Shah of Iran, that provided allocated jobs in the police force to all orphans. The unforseen consequence was that this labor pool consisted of some very mixed up youths, later complexed adults, dealing emotionally spitefully with the public where family ties were important and they had none.
In his 60-Minutes interview Hussein-Obambi giggled when he was informed that nearly 80% of the country opposed his spending. He tried to squeeze out of it by calling his laughter at the dire straits of the ecomomy as "gallows humor". Sadly his self-centered narcissism made this even worse when asked if he thought the economy could implode, he firmly replied "yes".
Has it occurred to anyone that his giggles were an inability to hide his pleasure at the success he has had in dismantling all the security in our country, setting up removal of our freedoms and revelling in the ultimate destruction of our America.
If things go south economically, he can go and live in luxury with Cousin Odinga in Kenya, so what does he have to lose if we go down the tubes? Nothing. By then the world economy will have tanked and nobody will have time to worry about him. Too busy trying not to starve to death or be killed by his Brown Shirt Civil Militia thugs for opposing what must finally be termed the retarded idiot-savant policies he insists on dropping on us.
Again, he and his family have ZERO exposure to the miserable catastrophe he creates for everyone else. As appears to be his fervent intent. Unless he truly is clueless.
To think they tried to label Bush, who kept us safe and secure for eight years with that tag.
