A court ordered psychiatric examination of Asim CEJANOVIC [see dm.OSINF backgrounder as of October 03, 2007] was released today stating that Mr CEJANOVIC was compos mentis when he carried a backbag filled with explosive material to the US embassy in VIENNA on October 01, 2007.
He will go on trial on February 21, 2008 and might be detained up to five years for preparing an attack using explosive material. Mr CEJANOVIC' defense lawyer said he had "nothing bad in mind" and just wanted to hand the backbag filled with explosives, handgrenates and nails over to the RSO.
The federal prosecuter disagrees with this opinion saying that Mr CEJANOVIC would just have needed some 30 to 60 seconds to arm the device and to detonate it.
So far Austrian security authorities publicly tried to give the impression that the incident at the US embassy Vienna was just an isolated attempt carried out by a mentally disabled person without any terroristic or Islamic background.
Most mainstream media also cancelled reporting on the incident, public broadcaster ORF even removed articles from it's website. dm+
